Publicity – Tamie, Jamie, Pat

The committee will generate letters to the editor utilizing ideas gathered from the group during our meeting.  All letters/press releases will be sent to Jolene for review by the executive board prior to publishing.

There was some concern regarding the anticipated high volume of letters to the editor during the campaign session.   It is questionable how many of our letters will be printed.  But we will give it a shot.

Pat requested a vote of support on the Sherriff’s levy.  After much discussion we voted 13 to 3 to endorse the levy and agreed on a press release as a next step.  Our publicity committee will get this done and send to the executive board for approval prior to publishing.

We voted to run a ½ page black and white GOTV ad in all our county papers the week the ballots go out – Oct 20.  It will highlight our Democratic slate as well as any measures we select at our Oct 7th lunch meeting.

Recruitment – Julane

Julane has begun calling volunteers to help with the GOTV effort.  Jolene is cleaning up our new volunteer database, validating content against the voter file

Speakers Bureau  - Ryan

Craig is checking on use of the high school to run “Iraq for Sale” at Julane’s request.  Jolene handed out the movie schedule Clatsop County will be running through Oct.  We will look at planning something similar in 2007

5. Old Business:

A.  State Fair – Jolene reported we covered Labor Day – a fun day.  Thank you to all who participated

B.  Scappoose Sauerkraut Festival - Another fun day manning the booth; warm, no rain!

6. New Business

GOTV Plan – Phone Banking

Columbia County will participate in a state wide phone banking effort

Our official kick-off will be Oct 7th at the TransWestern office (behind the Scappoose Airport).

For those eager to start now Jolene will send the GOTV precinct lists.

Everyone will focus on completing calls within their own precincts first, after which we will call the non-represented precincts.  All results must be recorded and returned to Jolene for entry into the Voter file.

At Rita’s suggestion, we will attempt to track our list against who has already voted, updating our call lists as we go

Logistics:

People signed up to work either the 10am to noon or the 1pm to 3pm shifts.  Send Jolene an email if you have not signed up.  This is why we are precinct people.  We need everyone!!

Betsy Johnson will provide lunch (pizza/pop) from noon to 1pm

NOTE - During the lunch hour we will discuss the measures and decide if we’d like to reference any of them in the GOTV ad we plan to run in Oct.

GOTV Plan - DTD

In addition to the phone banking, several are planning to walk their precincts

Jolene can provide PCP walk lists plus we have plenty of flyers for our candidates

The DPO has created a door hanger of Democratic Values.  We can pick up more at the DPO office for anyone who needs them.

Similar to the phone banking effort, all results must be recorded and sent back to Jolene for data entry.

Our Next meeting would have been Oct 31, not a good choice.  So we agreed we would have a second phone bank at Betsy’s on Oct 14th, same times as above, and hold our CCDCC meeting during the lunch hour.   We’ll send a reminder/agenda early in Oct.

We adjourned at 8:30
