Platform Committee update – Jolene

The first draft will be sent out in late January after which we have six weeks to add our voice to the proposed platform.  The Platform Convention will be held on the second weekend in April.  Let’s be thinking of how we want the state platform to represent Columbia County

•           LNG resolution – Pat Cunningham

Pat requested that the resolution passed by the Clatsop County DCC be used in place of the one previously submitted, with appropriate alterations.  After some discussion three friendly amendments were offered and accepted.  At the conclusion, question was called; the new resolution as amended passed 18 -5 with 2 abstentions.  The final resolution is posted on our website and has been sent to the local media.

•           Motion regarding the Karol-Chik incident

After a debate on whether to support the Karol-Chik incident with a letter to the editor or an ad, we all agreed on a letter.  The letter will make a public statement in support of free speech and against violence.  Several in the group offered to ask other political parties and groups to jointly sign our letter.  Thanks to the efforts of Bill Blank, Susan Conn and Mike Edera, the letter is ready, and our volunteers are actively soliciting support.  Mark and Carissa have been interviewed by the Spotlight.  We hope to have our letter in the subsequent issue.

Other Business:

Jolene is running to be one of Oregon's 60 delegates to Democratic National Convention in Denver. To win, she will have to have her supporters vote in person in Beaverton on June 7.  Mark it on your calendars now and join us if you can.

            The
next CD1 meeting will be held at the Warren Country Inn on December 1st. at the Warren Country Inn beginning at 11am.

Congressman David Wu and Representative Brad Witt will be at the Gnat Creek Fish Hatchery at 3pm on Dec. 29 to view the hatchery’s cutting-edge Oxygen Supplementation System. During the tour, Georgia Pacific’s Wauna Mill will present a check to Roger Warren, Gnat Creek Hatchery Manager to fund an Outdoor Classroom. Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend.

Strategic Plan  -  Jolene

Due to time constraints we encourage each of our Strategic groups to continue discussions amongst themselves and formulate a report at our next meeting which will be held at the Warren County Inn on Jan 29 (depending on availability).
