We split the booth fee with the human dignity group. We also paid $115 for our Columbia County Democratic Central Committee website. We have about $1060 currently in our checking account.
Bill reported that District One agreed to a 50/50 split in proceeds from the auction last December. They emphasized that this would only be this time around. As agreed in a previous Columbia County precinct meeting, beginning in 2003 we will separate the Columbia County Christmas auction from the District 1 Christmas auction. Columbia County will hold its auction during our regularly scheduled December meeting. We can continue to host the District 1 auction . The district did contribute $150 toward the January ballot measure 5-103.
Craig reported that the Legislative committee went to Salem with the Ruckus for Justice group. There were about 300 people that participated. They had a parade and visited legislators. Columbia County had the largest group and were able to meet with both of our legislators.
Craig also passed around the election results from the May election.
The Communications committee is planning on participating in the River City Days parade on June 21st. They will be decorating a truck . They ask other central committee members to come and ride on the “float” with them.
There was no report from the fundraising committee due the chair being at play practice. He will be Horace VanderGelder in Hello Dolly this summer.
The finance committee had no report other than the treasurer’s report.
The fair will be the 16- 20th of July. Nancy, Claudia, and Karen volunteered to locate educational information to hand out at the fair. The Dem. Booth will sell water and candy bars. There was discussion about having a raffle. A sign up sheet was passed around for members to sign up to work at the fair booth. Voter registration cards will also be made available at the fair, although voters must now turn their registrations in to the courthouse in person.
It was decided to only volunteer for one time segment to man the democratic booth at the state fair. Jolene, Bill and Claudia, and possibly the Olsons will be at the state fair booth.
October 10-12, 2003 the state democratic party will have a strategizing at Sunriver.
Jolene has been reviewing voter’s records in order to find democrats who regularly vote in order to ask them if they would consider being a precinct member.
Jolene has been participating in a newly organized Bill of Right’s Defense Committee. Jolene will compile a packet of information on this topic to hand out at the fair. She is seeking interested people to become involved. Bill moved and Karen seconded a motion to support the Bill of Rights and the goals of the committee. The motion passed unanimously. Jolene would like to have an educational meeting at the Tech Center.
SOLV has project money to fund 10 environmental projects. The amount of the grants is $250/ project.
Thelma Bonar presented a petition for a rock depletion fee for rock leaving Columbia County. She needs 1090 signatures to place it on the ballot. She said the fee would generate dollars to be dedicated to parks and animal control. She passed the petition around the meeting.
We approved a motion to include Thelma as a precinct member pending the availability of an open precinct.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
Sincerely,
Karen Ladd
