Minutes of 1/14/03
Members
present: Jolene Jonas, Gary Heide, Diana Boom, Karen Ladd, Ted and Norma Olson,
Lori Peterson, Craig Frasier, Paula Becks, Bill and Claudia Eagle, Dave Freytag,
Joe Corsiglia, Susan Easley, Nancy Federici, Donna Nyberg, Carole Smith, and Sue
Ziglinski

Pam Powell, Phil Barlow, Michael “Paul” from Rainier.
The
meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. Each person at the meeting introduced
themselves. The minutes were approved as presented. The agenda was approved as
presented. The treasurer stated that our current checking account balance is
$457.57. Diana acknowledged Josette Hugo and Chip and Nancy Bubl for their
in-kind donations. Also Dave Freytag and Rita and Norm Bernhard gave money to
support the democrats. The auction in December raised over $800. It will be
shared with District one. The percentages are in question. Diana stated that we
need to pay the Columbia Fair Booth deposit/fee. Ted moved and Norma seconded
and it was approved to pay the deposit or the fee for the upcoming fair booth.
The fair is July 16-20 this year. Craig moved and Bill seconded to accept the
treasurer’s report. Motion passed unanimously.
Jolene
discussed that the executive committee had met and they had decided to meet
quarterly prior to the central committee meetings. The meeting dates are
February 25, 2003; May 29,2003; August 25, 2003; and November 25, 2003. All
meetings will start at 7:00 p.m.
Requests
for members to the finance committee yielded the following volunteers: Norma
Olson, Carole Smith, Diana Boom (treasurer), and Karen Ladd.
Gary
Heide presented several ideas he had for the fundraising committee. Lori
Peterson volunteered to work with Gary on the ideas.
Susan
Easley has accepted the lead on the publicity committee. Paula Becks and Pam
Powell volunteered to assist. Susan’s goal is to be higher profile. The
website domains need to be paid. The cost for two years in order to keep the two
website names (Columbia Democrats.org and Columbia Democrats.com) is $80. The
hosting cost for two years is $120. Diana moved and Ted seconded to approve
these expenditures. The motion passed ( one vote in opposition).
The
organization committee is led by Rod Bennion. Pam Powell and Phil Barlow were
presented for precinct membership. Gary moved and Craig seconded the motion to
approve them. The motion was approved unanimously.
The legislative committee is led by Craig Frasier. The March election will include the Scappoose school district measure and the Constitution party initiative. The May election will be the election for all the special districts (i.e. St. Helen’s Parks and Rec District, 9-1-1 District, fire districts, Port of St. Helens, all school districts, ESD, Rainier cemetery, library districts). We need to organize door knocking again. Pat Zimmerman will organize.
Nancy and Gary will doing speaking engagements. We need letters to the editor weekly. There was discussion on running advertisements to vote no in mid-February on the Constitution party initiative.
