Democratic Central
Committee Meeting
Minutes of December 9, 2003
Attendance: Jolene Jonas, chair; Gary Heide, vice chair; Diana Boom, treasurer; Karen Ladd, secretary; Bill Eagle; Chip and Nancy Bubl; Nancy Federici; Dorothy Robertson; Paula Becks; Josette Hugo; Donna and Jon Nyberg; Dave Freytag; Ted and Norma Olson; Rita Bernhard
The meeting was called to order by the chair. The pledge of allegiance was recited. The minutes from the last meeting were approved. The agenda was approved with the addition of discussion on the fair booth and the tax measure in March.
The treasurer Diana stated we had $1244 in our account. That did not include the auction dollars from the district auction. The state party Christmas party will also raise dollars as well as the auction of 12/9/03.
The first district democratic meeting was the preceding Saturday. Jolene and Bill and Claudia attended.
The state meeting will be December 13, 2003. Gary, Jolene, and Craig will attend. The platform will be a revised 2002 platform with tax reform and energy as being important issues. The 2004 platform convention will be coming up in late February or early March. The platform is on the DPO website. We would like all members to read it and give input to the executive committee by January.
The national convention next year will be in Boston. Jolene will go to Washington County meeting to learn the selection process for delegates.
For 2004, the Columbia County democratic committee agreed to meet on the 4th Tuesday of March, June, and September and the 1st Tuesday of December.
Diana announced that the fair booth registration needs to be paid in January 2004. A motion was approved to pay the fair booth registration.
The tax measure was discussed. Paula requested that we re-connect with the unions. A letter to the local union groups was discussed. Another idea was that we ask the League of Women Voters to have a public forum on the tax measure in January. We need editorial watchers and writers to respond quickly on the tax measure.
Jolene will be handing out Bill of Rights bookmarks at the Scappoose post office and the Columbia County courthouse on Dec. 15th. Any volunteers would be greatly appreciated.
Joan Dukes gave an update on the legislature and legislators. Some members are choosing not to run again after the last session.
The auction was convened. Bill Eagle acted as the auctioneer. Jolene and Paula worked the audience. Diana kept track of how much we all spent and made sure we handed our money over. The auction made $530.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Karen Ladd
